In a significant move to bolster food security in Yemen, Saudi Arabia’s aid agency, KSrelief, has teamed up with the UK’s Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office to launch a $10 million project. This initiative is designed to assist vulnerable communities and enhance their long-term resilience in a country ravaged by conflict and instability.
Each partner will contribute $5 million to the project, which will be carried out by the United Nations World Food Programme. The focus will be on five governorates: Al-Mahrah, Hadramout, Aden, Al-Dhale, and Lahij. Through conditional cash transfers, the project aims to improve food access, restore productive infrastructure, and help families shift from relying on emergency food assistance to achieving greater self-reliance.
Beyond immediate food aid, the initiative includes vocational training and support for local authorities. It also involves measures to enhance governance and ensure the sustainable management of community resources, which are crucial for the long-term development and stability of the affected regions.
This collaboration is part of Saudi Arabia’s extensive humanitarian efforts through KSrelief, which has executed over 4,400 aid projects in 113 countries, with a total expenditure exceeding $8.5 billion since 2015. The ongoing commitment underscores the importance of international partnerships in addressing complex humanitarian challenges.
