Saudi Arabia has expressed approval of a recent United Nations Security Council statement that condemns escalating attacks by the Houthi movement against the Kingdom. The statement reaffirms Saudi Arabia’s right to defend its territory, citizens, and residents under international law.

The Saudi Ministry of Foreign Affairs acknowledged the Security Council’s solidarity and condemnation of attacks targeting civilians, airports, and critical infrastructure. The statement also addressed threats to maritime navigation in the Red Sea and the Bab Al-Mandab Strait. Specifically, the Security Council condemned recent attacks on King Khalid International Airport on October 10 and 11, which reportedly resulted in deaths and injuries, as well as attacks on other Saudi airports and facilities operated by Saudi Aramco.

In addition to condemning the Houthi attacks, the Security Council extended condolences to the families of victims and urged the Houthis to cease military escalations and attacks on civilian infrastructure. The council emphasized the importance of fully implementing Resolution 2216, adopted in 2015, and subsequent resolutions, calling for increased international cooperation to prevent the transfer of weapons, military equipment, funding, training, and technical assistance to the Houthis.

The Security Council also addressed threats against commercial shipping in the Red Sea and the Bab Al-Mandab Strait, underscoring the necessity of safeguarding vessels, their crews, and international maritime navigation. Furthermore, the council reiterated its support for Yemen’s internationally recognized government, emphasizing the importance of the country’s unity, sovereignty, and territorial integrity.

Backing UN Special Envoy Hans Grundberg’s diplomatic efforts, the Security Council stressed the need for a comprehensive political settlement in Yemen. This diplomatic support aims to address the ongoing conflict and foster stability in the region.
