Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to enhance cooperation in electricity grid interconnection and rail transport. This agreement aims to boost regional connectivity, improve energy efficiency, and facilitate cross-border trade. The MoU was signed by Saudi Energy Minister Prince Abdulaziz bin Salman and UAE Investment Minister Mohamed Hassan Alsuwaidi.

The initiative focuses on strengthening infrastructure integration between the two nations, with specific emphasis on electricity exchange and sales, as well as the development of rail connectivity. The collaboration is expected to yield mutual economic benefits by improving logistics networks and increasing supply-chain efficiency.

A key component of the agreement involves coordinating with other Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) member states to expand the regional electricity interconnection network. This move is intended to enhance energy-system efficiency, strengthen electricity cooperation, and support greater integration across the Gulf region.

In terms of rail connectivity, the MoU outlines general principles for the transportation and transit of goods and freight in both directions between Saudi Arabia and the UAE. The proposed rail cooperation aims to facilitate cross-border cargo movement, thus supporting economic development and expanding regional trade.

By bolstering transport and energy links, Saudi Arabia and the UAE seek to deepen cooperation across the Gulf, further integrating their economies and enhancing regional trade ties. The agreement reflects a strategic effort to enhance infrastructure and connectivity, ultimately contributing to the broader economic landscape of the Gulf region.
