In the first half of 2025, King Faisal Specialist Hospital and Research Centre (KFSH) conducted nearly half of all clinical trials registered in Saudi Arabia, underscoring its pivotal role in the realm of clinical research and advanced healthcare innovation. The hospital’s comprehensive research operations are bolstered by a multidisciplinary team comprising investigators, research nurses, pharmacists, coordinators, data specialists, and regulatory and ethics teams. Together, these professionals ensure the smooth progression of clinical studies from initial scientific planning through to patient recruitment, trial execution, safety oversight, and data management.
Since the establishment of its centralized Clinical Trials service in 2020, KFSH has been instrumental in coordinating research efforts led by its clinicians and investigators. This service aids in feasibility assessments, study initiation, trial management, patient recruitment, investigational drug administration, data quality assurance, safety reporting, and adherence to regulatory and ethical standards. During the first half of 2025, KFSH reported 104 active clinical trials, with 80 new studies in progress. These research initiatives span a diverse array of medical fields, including oncology, cardiovascular health, autoimmune and musculoskeletal conditions, dermatology, gastroenterology, liver disease, and endocrine and metabolic disorders, offering patients with complex conditions access to cutting-edge treatment options.
Among the notable advancements was a pioneering Phase I clinical trial involving locally manufactured genetically engineered CAR-T cells for treating relapsed acute lymphoblastic leukemia. This trial exemplifies the synergy of local scientific expertise, advanced biomanufacturing capabilities, and specialized clinical care, all integrated within a cohesive research framework.
The hospital’s centralized infrastructure for clinical trials also facilitates participation in intricate international studies. By maintaining rigorous standards for patient safety, ethical practices, data quality, and regulatory compliance, KFSH fosters collaboration with multinational research entities. The hospital is set to showcase its innovative approach to clinical research and healthcare advancement at the C3 US NYC Davos of Healthcare Summit 2026 in New York City on September 14.
Globally recognized among leading academic medical centers, KFSH has earned accolades for its healthcare brand and consistently features in international hospital rankings. Based in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, the institution continues to strengthen its reputation as a beacon of medical research and healthcare excellence in the Middle East and beyond.
