Saudi Arabia and Serbia are strengthening their economic and diplomatic ties, focusing on collaboration in sectors such as energy, technology, agriculture, food industries, and trade. Both nations have been keen to enhance these partnerships, with recent discussions highlighting joint projects in energy and advanced technologies, as well as increasing Serbian companies’ footprint in the Saudi market and boosting Saudi investments in Serbia.
In a significant diplomatic development, Saudi Deputy Foreign Minister Waleed Elkhereiji and Serbian Foreign Minister Marko Duric recently met in Belgrade to sign an agreement that eliminates visa requirements for diplomatic and official passport holders. This move is expected to ease official exchanges between the two countries, fostering closer relations.
Trade between Saudi Arabia and Serbia has seen substantial growth. In 2025, bilateral trade reached $121 million, marking a nearly nine-fold increase compared to 2012. The momentum continued into 2026, with trade in the first half of the year reaching $130.4 million, a 152% rise from the same period the previous year.
Future events such as EXPO 2027 in Belgrade and EXPO 2030 in Riyadh are anticipated to further bolster investment and business partnerships, offering platforms for the exchange of expertise. Saudi Arabia has already committed to participating in EXPO 2027, where it plans to highlight its economic progress, innovations, cultural heritage, and investment opportunities.
In addition to these initiatives, both countries are exploring cooperation in science and technology. Serbia, in particular, intends to make a significant presence at the Saudi Food exhibition in Jeddah, with plans for more than 50 companies to participate, showcasing the potential for growth and collaboration in the food industry.
