FREELANDER is stepping into a new era as it redefines intelligent mobility, going beyond mere transportation to offer experiences enhanced by smart technology and connectivity. Originally launched in 1997, the Land Rover Freelander set a new standard by combining off-road capability with passenger comfort, becoming a symbol of freedom and adventure. As the automotive industry transforms, FREELANDER is now emerging as a premium intelligent mobility brand, focusing on modern drivers and global markets. The brand’s latest strategy, unveiled at the Night of FREELANDER during the IBS (Chery International Business Summit), aims to integrate its heritage with advanced technologies, digital ecosystems, and luxury mobility experiences.
FREELANDER plans to introduce six new SUV models over the next five years, expanding its presence to over 90 countries with more than 1,100 touchpoints worldwide. This ambitious expansion will accommodate both Left-Hand Drive and Right-Hand Drive specifications, as well as European Union standards. Notably, the Middle East has been chosen as the brand’s first international strategic market, underscoring the region’s significance in the premium automotive sector and its growing demand for intelligent mobility solutions. The brand’s future direction is built around three key pillars: British Craftsmanship, Smart Confidence, and All-Terrain Freedom.
The newly unveiled FREELANDER 8 exemplifies this direction, featuring panoramic digital displays, intelligent cockpit technologies, and second-row zero-gravity seating aimed at enhancing comfort and connectivity. Powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8295 chip, the vehicle’s cockpit can support up to eight displays, offering a highly interactive and immersive experience. Additionally, it incorporates L2+ advanced driver assistance systems and Advanced VPD functionality in select markets, enabling features such as autonomous parking and smartphone-based vehicle retrieval.
FREELANDER continues to emphasize its all-terrain capabilities through its i-ATS Intelligent All-Terrain System, designed to handle diverse environments like snow, mud, and sand. Advanced features include dual-chamber air suspension, intelligent terrain management systems, and rear e-LSD functionality. During the IBS summit, the brand also showcased innovations like the AiMOGA robot initiative, highlighting the role of artificial intelligence in shaping future mobility ecosystems.
All FREELANDER vehicles will be manufactured at the Chery Jaguar Land Rover Intelligent Manufacturing Base, located outside the UK. This facility uses more than 1,100 robotic operations to ensure high-quality production through automated processes in stamping, welding, and painting. As FREELANDER looks to the future, its transformation reflects broader industry trends towards connected technologies and adaptable transportation solutions. Nearly three decades after revolutionizing the SUV market, FREELANDER is preparing for its next chapter focused on intelligent mobility and global expansion.
